Truck 10 - Ursu Korean Tacos

Truck: Ursu Korean Tacos
Location: Homer just off of Georgia
Type of Food: Korean Tacos
Sidekicks: Kristina
Food Ordered:
Kristina
  • 1 Chicken and 1 Beef Taco
Tara
  • 1 Beef and 1 Tofu Taco
The Verdict:
What's the first thing you think when I say - Korean Tacos?  I love Korean beef and I love tacos so I figured I needed to give this melding of foods a try.

Wow!  These tacos were very tasty!  The most flavourful of the three was the chicken.  All of the tacos were jam packed with complex flavours, great texture (especially the tofu).  Medium spicy was plenty spicy for me.  If you don't like spice I would recommend at least mild!

The only thing that I would have liked would be to add more traditional taco ingredients like guacamole, lettuce etc.

Favourite Thing(s) About This Truck
The owners are super cute!  They are very friendly and the food was made fresh right on the spot!  It was like you had gone over to their house and they were making you lunch.

I also love the creativity of this fusion dish!

Accessibility: Right off of Georgia Street.  This is a great location if you're studying at the library, going to see a show at the Queen Elizabeth or the Vogue Theatre or if you work at BC Hydro/Accenture!

Green Rating: Nothing worthy of note here.  Unfortunately, there wasn't any recycling for the food scraps (but I don't see there being any) or the napkins/paper bags they served the food in.

Takes a little longer because everything is 100% handmade on the spot - but it's definitely worth the wait!

Truck 3 - Off the Wagon Travelling Tacos

Truck: Off The Wagon Travelling Tacos
Location: Burrard and Dunsmuir (1000 Dunsmuir St, Vancouver).  You can also find them at the Vancouver Farmer's Markets.
Type of Food: "A Mobile Taqueria with a focus on fresh, local flavours."
Sidekicks: Melissa aka "Secret Sidekick" and Mari
Food Ordered:

  • Tara - 2 Tacos - 1 Beef Brisket with Jalapeno Slaw and 1 Pastor - rotisserie pork with Pico de Gallo
  • Melissa - 2 Tacos - Roasted Yam & Black Beans (Vegan)
  • Mari - 2 Tacos - Pastor (see above for description)
The Verdict: After we got over how we were going to eat the tacos without a fork and without making a mess and we took our first bites, Mari exclaimed "Wow!"  This pretty much summed up the scrumptious experience that occurred when we all took our first bights.  My only complaint was that iI could have eaten at least 2 more as the portion sizes were a bit small for what I needed for lunch.

If local, gluten free and vegan options are what you are looking for as a lunch choice definitely try this cart!  If you are looking for smaller portions then this truck is for you!  Unfortunately, compared to the other trucks we've tried so far the value for your money is not quite as good.

Favourite Thing About This Truck: All of the ingredients are local.  This cart also puts an emphasis on recycling including having a green can for composting.
Accessibility: Right outside the Burrard Street skytrain station on Dunsmuir.

Truck 2 - Arturo's Mexico To Go

Truck: Arturo's Mexico To Go
Location: Howe and Cordova
Type of Food: Described by the website as Spanish/Mexican Fusion
Sidekick: Melissa aka Secret Sidekick
Food Ordered: Nopales Cactus Trio - Today's Special (Tara), Burrito Bowl (Melissa)
The Verdict: Yum!  Nopales is cactus.  I decided to be adventurous and try something I have never tried before.  These cacti tasted somewhat like marinated green beans.  Combined with beans, rice and salsa verde this special had a bit of a kick.  I needed the warmth from this delicious concoction to warm me up as the sun decided to hide behind a cloud while we sat outside eating it.

Both of us got very healthy portions for under $10.  I would definitely recommend this food to everyone!

Favourite Thing About This Truck: The size of the portions was great for the value.  Also the guys in the truck were pretty funny!
Accessibility: Right outside the Waterfront Station skytrain station on the Pan Pacific side.
